The Nigeria Police on Thursday presented cheques worth N53 million under the Police Life Insurance Scheme to families of 40 officers who died in active duty in Zone 2 Command.
Presenting the cheques, the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Solomon Arase, represented by AIG Bala Hassan, who heads the zone, said the gesture was in fulfillment of the police life insurance policy.
Arase explained that the scheme was put in place to alleviate the suffering of the family members of the deceased personnel who either died or sustained near fatal injuries in the course of duty.
“This is another move that the police authorities have come up with though it has been on.
“The reason why this is different is that those colleagues of ours that died in active service their families are being given some money.
“This will enable the families of the deceased to take care of their loved ones that are still living; we have officers that died during the course of duty and those that were shot by armed robbers
,’’ he said.
